First Mireo EMUs Presented

As we reported in R 4/16, pp. 98-99, in summer 2016 Siemens announced the development of a new family of EMUs, to be brand-named Mireo. The very first order for Mireos came from DB Regio, which on 16 February 2017 ordered 24 three-car Mireo EMUs (together with 15 four-car Desiro HC EMUs). These first Mireos are to be used on the Rheintal-Netz group of services in southwest Germany, which from June 2020 are to be operated exclusively with new Siemens-built, 160 km/h EMUs, following a complete restructuring.
