The 'Women In... Summit' and inclusion within transport

RESEARCH in 2020 by City & Guilds and the National Skills Academy for Rail outlines shortages of up to 120,000 people in the rail sector to 2030. In aerospace and aviation, 42% of industry leaders expect a labour shortage. In maritime, the Ocean Policy Research Foundation predicts a shortage of 364,000 seafarers by 2050. Transport - in all sectors - is facing a major shortage of staff as the industry expands and modernises globally. However, with many of our sectors still perceived to be traditionally (and currently) 'male' sectors, and with this perception reinforced by our current gender balance, this is hardly a surprise. Rail is around 84% male (2017-18), with other sectors at a similar (or lower) level. The transport sector overall in the UK stands at 21% female.
