Suspects arrested after 'shocking' attack on BTP officer

Two 22-year-old men from Wolverhampton have been arrested in connection with a serious assault sustained by a British Transport Police officer at Camden Town Tube station on July 11. The officer had been administering emergency first aid to a member of the public who had fallen down a flight of stairs when he was approached by two men who struck him about the head. He suffered fractures to his face and serious injuries to his upper body, but is now recovering at home following his discharge from hospital. The incident occurred during a day of widespread disorder in and around central and north London as over 60,000 football supporters travelled to Wembley for the Euro 2020 final between England and Italy. Detectives praised the level of response to an appeal for information that was launched on July 12, and which led to the arrests being made the next day.
