The High Speed Train power car that holds the world speed record (43102) has been donated to the National Railway Museum. The locomotive, which set the record for a diesel-powered train when it reached 148.5mph between Northallerton and York in 1987, will be housed at the entrance of NRM's Locomotion site at Shildon, County Durham.43102, with trailing power car 43159, set the record on a test run for new Mk 4 roiling stock. The donation forms part of Porterbook's 'Gold Partnership' with the NRM, which is focused on encouraging more young people into careers in engineering.
