Railcard conditions are far too complicated - here's why...

I return to railcards this issue - mainly to give details of the new Veterans' Railcard, which will be launched on November 5 (RAIL 916). I also want to look more generally at the railcard family and at the inevitable confusion that exists - for rail staff as well as potential customers - regarding their differing conditions. There are 13 local railcards, generally only available to those living in certain parts of Britain. It is perfectly reasonable that the price and conditions of these vary to match the size of the networks and their commercial sensitivity.
