HST memories: Happy days spent on the engine design

RAIL 880's front cover "Farewell HST" caught my eye. I was involved with the Mirrlees Blackstone engines. I designed the governor and engine control system for the MB190 used on the British Rail HSTs. It started with an MB190 on a test bed at the Mirrlees Blackstone factory at Stockport. It was set up to simulate being in an HST, with all the stops and starts that would go on during the working day of the train.
