South Western Wessex Electrics finally in service

SOUTH Western Railway introduced a pair of five-car Wessex Electrics into passenger service on June 10, with 442410 and 442420 forming the 0628 Southampton Airport Parkway to London Waterloo. The fleet of 18 trains had originally been promised last autumn. Last month SWR suddenly withdrew the fleet of refurbished 30-year-old trains because of a safety issue with the door locking system. It did so just four days before they were due to start carrying passengers with the May timetable change.
