These days the bulk of effort by the professional antenna engineers is directed towards satellite, UHF, microwave and gigahertz antennas. Conversely, relatively little attention is given to HF with the exception of improved near-vertical-incidence-systems for mobile units. Therefore, it was with something like relief that I came across a paper presented last April at the '10th International Conference on Antennas & Propagation' (ICAP97 - IEE Conference Publication No 436, pp 1.428 - 1.430) describing a novel HF antenna that could have promise for amateur as well as professional applications.
