I am pleased to report that after a difficult financial performance last year, this year's half-year results show a marked improvement in our position. We are gaining ground and report a half-year deficit of £20.9k compared with £88.2k at the same time last year. We have made big efforts to increase our membership by encouraging lapsed and former members to rejoin the Society. In this we have been most successful. Also the sale of books has been buoyant and this, coupled with stringent controls being placed on all areas of expenditure, bodes well for the remainder of the year at the end of which we hope to be in a break-even position.
