Band conditions remained good during October, with 10m openings from the UK to, for example, VK/ ZL and KL7. 1999 looks like being a great year for DX. I particularly want to recommend 24MHz as a band worth considering. A gain antenna (such as a quad or small Yagi) is relatively small and can be rotated with a VHF-type rotator. The band is free of contest activity, yet produces some excellent DX which you can work with modest power levels, as many amateurs have yet to install gain antennas for the band.
