The July 1998 column told of the contacts made by Mark Haynes, 2E0APH, showing that low power is no handicap. In answer to my letter, he wrote and gave me a little more information about himself. Following a course run by Robert Snary, G4OBE, he gained the callsign 2E1ERN when he was just 12, having already been interested in radio for five years. Later the same year, he earned his present callsign, 2E0APH. He still uses Morse code, and many of his contacts have been on the key. He has set up a radio club at his school and several of his friends are members. He is currently teaching them Morse in preparation for their possible future entry into the hobby - in fact, one of them took the last NRAE. He is an active member of the Air Training Corps locally, where there is VHF radio equipment available. He would like to follow a career within the aircraft industry - maybe even becoming a pilot.
