On sunday 1 August, on prob ably the only really hot, dry day in early August, over 3,000 visitors poured into the grounds of Hatfield House, the home of Lord Salisbury, in Hertfordshire. They came to test out the new-style RSGB mobile rally, which had been transferred from Woburn Park, its home for 38 years, to its new venue at Hatfield. This was the launch of a new-style family-orientated rally, covering the various aspects of 'hobby' radio, ie amateur radio, CB and Radio Control. Judging by the way the day went, this was a winning formula. Also new this year was an amateur radio exhibition, an outside trade stand area, a car boot sale, an ARDF display, and family entertainment (jazz band, face painting for the children, etc).
