The total eclipse of the sun and the Perseids me teor shower both occurred while I was on holiday in Cornwall. I had hoped to arrange a sponsorship deal with a major amateur radio supplier so that I could monitor the effect of the eclipse on the low bands, but an arrangement was not secured - largely because had I been tuning the bands looking for unusual propagation conditions I would have missed the experience of a lifetime. As it turned out, I did see the total eclipse from a headland in Newquay. The clouds parted at just the right time and I have photographs to prove it! I was surprised how darkit became and how quickly we had day - night - day, and how chilly it was after the event.
