This transceiver was developed as a project that would hopefully appeal to the relatively inexperienced constructor, although it is probably not ideal for the complete beginner. The ability to handle a soldering iron and identify components is necessary, as is the ability to read and work from a circuit diagram, but a lot of detail is included to make construction as straightforward as possible.
