The Dipper Transformer

A grid or gate dip oscillator (GDO) is a useful instrument for measuring the resonance of tuned circuits or antenna elements. The GDO does not have to be connected directly to the tuned circuit to make a measurement, the coupling being effected inductively. When the oscillator in the GDO and the circuit under test are close to, or at the same frequency, power is absorbed by the circuit under test. The loss of power from the GDO is normally measured on a meter.
