The may rae report has reached me and, although I have not seen the papers, it is possible to offer some guidance to anyone wishing to retake the exam. Paper 1: Out of a total of 1,312, there were 977 successful candidates, giving a 74.5% pass rate. A question on the type of measuring equipment which should be used to verify that a 144MHz crystal controlled receiver operated within the authorised bandwidth was incorrectly answered by 55% of candidates. In a later question, 36% thought that an absorption wavemeter should be used to verify that a transmitter that is not crystal controlled is operating legally. In this case, a device based on a crystal oscillator should be used.
