Servicing early Yaesu and Trio/Kenwood equipment

All you need is a mark one brain. Reading the service notes in the manufacturers manual one might think that a great deal of test equipment was needed to carry out any repairs. Of course it helps, but most work can be done with little more than a decent soldering iron, a multimeter and a separate receiver. In the January and February 2005 issues of RadCom I covered the problems of servicing the power supplies, driver, and output stages of transceivers made in the early 70's and 80's. Following on from this, I present some notes on servicing the other parts of early radios. Many of the issues discussed are just as valid when examining modern equipment.
