Have you noticed how CW and keys have increased in popularity since Morse code requirements in license exams have been reduced? Indeed, there appears to be even more magnificent CW instruments being made (and used!) today than ever before. And while pump keys and paddles are always-favoured items for radio telegraphy, the classic semi-automatic key or "bug" remains high in popularity among a creditable number of CW devotees worldwide. Why so? Opinions vary, but the general consensus is every bug has a special "feel" - a tactile feedback to the fingers or an interaction with its operator -that separates it from all other keys. You may need to use several different bugs before discovering that unique feel, but rest assured it is there-and it truly makes operating CW delightful.
