It's difficult to know where to start with this magnificent book. Its subtitle should perhaps be "Everything you ever wanted to know about microwaves (but were afraid to ask)".rnMany different authors contributed to this book, and the acknowledgements page reads like a who's who of microwave specialists. Unlike some co-operative works there are no obvious 'joins' where bits have been bolted together, and this is a tribute both to the high quality of original writing and the editing abilities of G8ATD.rnDescribing the coverage of the book isrnquite hard, simply because it covers almost everything. From a detailed discussion of propagation (including a scholarly piece on ducts) through to chapters dealing with individual microwave bands, it has it all. In addition to the remarkably accessible theoretical material, there is a large selection of practical projects. These include transmitters, receivers, preamplifiers, power amplifiers and test equipment ranging from the simple to the very sophisticated. There are mechanical projects too, for instance filters, antennas and waveguide switches.
