I thought I'd put pen to paper to report that my young friend James, M3XRU and I have had a thoroughly enjoyable summer out on the hills playing radio in the Backpacker competition. We are thrilled at achieving a respectable 8th place in the low power section.rnWe've managed to get out on the hills here in the south east of England for all but one of the sessions. With just 2.5W from a vintage Yaesu FT-290R that is actually older than one of the operators, we've been completely amazed at achieving contacts from Scotland, Wales, Germany, France, Belgium, France and Switzerland. It's been a real blast and we thank everyone who has endured our sometimes scratchy signals to get our contact logged.
