The Three Counties ARC from Hampshire supported the Alton Guides and Brownies with their JOTA radio and internet station at their HQ in Alton.rnThis year, a full program of events was put on for the Brownie pack. As well as the HF radio, where all girls sent greeting messages to Guides or Scouts in other towns and campsites nationwide, slow scan TV pictures from the International Space Station were received. Other activities included a weather station, with real time pictures from satellites viewed courtesy of Frank, G7CND and a demonstration of both polar orbiting VHF and geostationary microwave images.rnMost amusing event of the weekend was a very young Brownie said to her dad, "we even heard the space station". Dad replied, "You have a very vivid imagination", then Paul stepped in and explained to the parent that an astronaut was heard talking on his radio by the children, after which the youngster said to dad, "See, and there are people living in space!".
