Celebrating the 90th Birthday of Prof. Uma Prabhu

On April 25, 2014, Prof. N. U. Prabhu, the founding editor of QUESTA and a preeminent applied probabilist, turns 90! It is my great honor to collect some personal reflections on this occasion as a celebration of his successful life and career. I came to Cornell as a graduate student in the fall of 1976, and I was struck by Prof. Prabhu's friendly and fatherly personality. I took a course on queueing theory with him, and immediately decided to work in this area as his student. Under his mentorship, queueing theory became my passion. It has stayed with me to this day. Although I learned a lot about stochastic processes in general and queueing theory in particular from him, I want to mention two other incidents that have stayed with me even after so many years.
