Mechanism of the appearance of a diffractive nonreciprocity in a ring gas laser

It is shown theoretically that diffraction leads to a difference between the losses and phase velocities of counter propagating waves in ring gas lasers. This is the cause of the appearance of the amplitude and frequency nonreciprocity of these waves.
