The need to see ourselves as others see us is as relevant today as it was when poet Robert Burns wrote this verse more than 200 years ago. This is especially true in the sensitive area of management-employee relations. For example, a study conducted in the civil-service sector found that 97% of the first-line supervisors rated their own performance as effective or very effective, but only 64% of their staffs saw it that way.
