Small groups bring big results

Manufacturing operations in a typical process industry, such as an oil refinery, are generally thought of as fixed-cycle, routine operations; little emphasis is put on alterations, modifications, and improvements. Therefore, when total quality management (TQM) is considered in the process industry, attention is generally focused on nonmanufacturing areas, which results in limited gains.
