My second job in quality-four years out of college-was the defining role for me. I worked as a contract quality specialist where my duties included auditing all areas of the quality management system. I also performed sample reinspection at the same facility. This position helped me understand the depth and breadth of the quality profession, and led me to pursuing a quality career. There are several: As experienced as I am, I still seek out Leigh Toole for knowledge or advice on topics related to quality management and regulatory concerns. With an encyclopedic knowledge of lean, Chris Hayes is still my go-to for lean advice or knowledge, even as a person who was the chair of the Lean Enterprise Division. I have known many talented and even award-winning Six Sigma professionals, but Jim Boblett is still the best that I know when it comes to practical application of Six Sigma methods on the manufacturing floor.
