How To Estimate the Parameters Of a Weibull Distribution

Quality professionals often need to determine time to failure and reliability of a product from a life test. Sometimes this analysis must be done when the life test is incomplete. The technique described in this article shows how to estimate the Weibull parameters when the incomplete life test is performed under overstress conditions with measurable degradation of the product during the test. The article also shows how to extend this technique to find confidence bounds on the reliable lifetime of the product. For this purpose we use a standardized extreme-value statistic that is obtained by a logarithmic transformation of the Weibull parameters.
