On the pages that follow, you'll find a lot of salary data from nearly 5,000 quality professionals. Here's a behind-the-scenes look at how those people came to participate in Quality Progress' 2005 Salary Survey and how their valuable information was culminated into this year's report. To invite people to participate in its online salary survey, QP e-mailed all U.S. and Canadian ASQ members who opted to receive e-mail from ASQ. In all, 35,383 messages were sent, 1,145 of which were undeliv-erable. Of the adjusted 34,238 messages, 4,936 people responded, giving a gross response rate of 14.4 percent. To make the survey results as valid as possible, QP also posted the survey online at www.asq.org to get unsolicited responses. A total of 40 people responded. The 40 unsolicited responses were combined with the 4,936 solicited responses for a total of 4,976 responses. This year's survey featured 39 questions. One of the first questions asked respondents about their employment status. As Table A shows, more than 90 percent of the respondents are full-time regular employees.
