Time Management Using Quality Tools

Early in my career as a technician for a major biotechnology company, I was challenged with a requirement to maintain a log of how I was spending my time. There were few guidelines for the process, but my manager said it would be fairly easy. "Simply keep track of the amount of time you are spending on each allocated project," he said. I began the task giving it the old college try. I set out to record my time in 30-minute intervals. It took about one week before this process became difficult to fit into the day. It was anything but simple.
