Despite all the efforts by specialists in quality and statistics, design of experiments (DoE) is still not applied as widely as it could and should be. When I talked to people who had some kind of introduction to DoE, I noticed they were reluctant or even scared to apply it. To them, DoE deals with complex tests with many factors at various levels and requires in-depth knowledge of at least two statistics textbooks. In addition, the continuous fight between Genichi Taguchi adepts, Dorian Shainin enthusiasts and classicists does not make it easier for the interested newcomer.
