Feigenbaum has been writing about quality insights since before most people in the profession were born. The National Medal of Technology and Innovation acknowledges not only his work, but also that of his brother Donald, who was an early contributor in developing the methods of systems engineering, just as Val contributed to quality engineering. Indeed, it is difficult to separate their contributions because of the link that has been established between quality and the systems approach. That is the hallmark of the lifelong work of both the Feigenbaum brothers.
