Many concerns were raised prior to the staging of the 2010 International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) World Cup about the preparedness of South Africa to host such a tournament. Many people, particularly in Europe, thought the event would be a quality flop. Now, after the successful completion of the tournament, it's hard to argue against it being a resounding success. That was the assessment of FIFA President Joseph Sepp Blatter, who rated South Africa's organizational efforts a nine out of 10. He also gave the ultimate accolade and declared that South Africa could be considered as a plan B for all future competitions. "Nobody in the world is perfect," he said, "but the organization of this first World Cup in Africa and South Africa was pretty close."
