Over the past several years, there has been an emphasis on demonstrating either the effect of intellectual capital on a firm's performance~(1,2) or productivity.~3 The effect of implementing soft total quality management (TQM) metrics on intellectual capital, however, has not yet been studied. The soft TQM elements are: 1. Leadership and top management 2. Education and training 3. Customer focus 4. Teamwork 5. Organization culture. Given the importance of intellectual capital, measuring and assessing the effect of each soft TQM element on intellectual capital is important. Successful—that is, competitive—organizations must enhance their TQM, and intellectual capital is the key to doing so. Four intellectual capital metrics have been identified.
