Year after year, the QP Salary Survey shows two things about its respondents: 1.They tend to stay in the quality profession. 2.They reap rewards for having more experience. The mix of respondents to the survey varies from year to year. This year, as Figure 1 shows, an unusually large group of respondents with more than 20 years of experience participated. This may show that since the 2008 recession, there have been fewer opportunities for newcomers to enter the profession, shrinking the group of the least experienced. Recent sluggish growth in the world economy may account for this fact and the stagnation of average salaries appearing in this year's results. The salary premium that accrues for those with experience, however, holds true again this year. For every group of U.S. respondents whose experience exceeds that of another group, the average salary is always higher, with the exception of the small number who report no quality experience at all, Figure 2 shows.
