Looping In Quality

Manufacturing plants are particularly challenged with quality issues during assembly operations. Defects require containment action to protect customers, and root cause analysis and corrective action to prevent recurrence. Typical containment action involves adding inspection activities at various points in the manufacturing process to detect the defect, but there are many possible defect opportunities on any given assembly. A muddled approach to adding inspection activities to detect a range of quality issues, however, can lead to higher operating expenses and repeat issues, thus making the additional inspection actions ineffective.
