NEW ATANDARD ADDRESSES MANUFACTURING MANAGEMENT

The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) International says it has developed the first standard for manufacturing management. AS6500 provides tools to measure manufacturing maturity and steps to successfully advance the manufacturing process. The standard also ensures more consistent implementation of practices throughout the U.S. Department of Defense's (DOD) industrial base early in the acquisition life cycle. Designed to benefit the DOD and industry, the standard is expected to improve cost and schedule performance on contracts, helping to create robust and reliable manufacturing systems.
