Design for six sigma (DFSS) is a widely used algorithmic process that integrates quality as part of the new product design process that has been shown to improve the performance of new product development. It often consists of five phases (define, measure, analyze, design and verify or DMADV), though several other variations of DFSS implementation exist. The U.S. military often uses DFSS to develop new products because the algorithmic process provides structure, incorporates the voice of the customer (VOC), infuses quality and improves outcomes.
