To provide ongoing quality training, regardless of economic conditions and budget constraints that can sometimes hamper more traditional programs, an industrial technology company that produces sensors and controls for manufacturers in the automotive, appliance, aircraft, industrial, and heating and air conditioning markets developed a new type of internal training opportunity for its employees. The basic idea behind Sensata Technologies' Meeting House program is to schedule classes weekly and gather 10 to 30 employees in a room to provide training on an important business or quality tool and allow time for exercises. A subject matter expert (SME) from within the Massachusetts-headquartered company leads the training session. The program was created to be interactive and provides the opportunity for frequent questions and answers-as opposed to a traditional classroom setting with an instructor teaching students. Since its inception in 2006, the program has grown to become a series of ongoing training opportunities for thousands of Sen-sata employees around the world. Before the program could achieve such results, some basic coordination was needed to build in some structure for planning the program's different classes, schedule and communication of the training calendar.
