Creating Process Topographic Maps to Improve Quality and Reduce Scrap

An often overlooked output from running Design of Experiments are the contour plots representing how the process responds to changes in put variables. These charts are often used to determine operational set points, but seldom shared with operations staff. Through a case study, the author illustrates one example of how these charts can be used to increase operator understanding of the process and hence reduce troubleshooting time, scrap genera- tion, and process variation.
