There is no doubt that we live in the era of big data. More than ever before, we are encountering large volumes of streaming data in our lives. Real-world applications such as telecommunications, health care, pharmaceutical, or financial businesses generate massive amounts of data round the clock (del Rio et al. 2014). Taking web social media alone, for instance, todays customer is estimated to generate 2.5 quintil-lion bytes of data per day between tweets, likes, comments, blogs, videos, and images (Strong 2015). These data contain abundant detailed information revealing individual behaviors and interactions, and these are an example of Behavioral Big Data (BBD). In the excellent BBD review article, Dr. Shmueli discusses a fascinating collection of examples covering a wide variety of applications as well as opportunities and challenges coming along with BBD.
