Throughout my 40-plus years in Amateur Radio, I have repeatedly heard that hams are "cheap." Most recently, I listened to a forum speaker (I won't say whom) at a large hamfest repeat this charge-in a derogatory tone-and it made me angry. It's not true. Moreover, it is an unfair stereotype that seems to endlessly circulate throughout our subculture.
