Reflecting on the Thrills of Amateur Radio

Two hams stood in a back yard - one brand new to the world of ham radio and the other an old timer once again active nearly three decades after first being licensed. They had just finished installing a tri-band HF Yagi antenna that the old timer bought to replace his simple sky wire. They were eager to test the new antenna on the air, but they hadn't yet purchased a length of coaxial feed line long enough to reach into the shack; they had only a short span that was about 10 feet shorter than the Yagi's heavy-duty mast. It would have to do - waiting for anything better would only delay the excitement.
