The inauguration of Oy Metsa-Botnia AB's pulp mill near Fray Bentos in the west of Uruguay has been delayed pending final approval from the country's environmental authorities. Initially, Botnia had intended to inaugurate the mill with a capacity of 1 million t at the end of the third quarter. Since early September, the company has been carrying out test runs at Fray Bentos. On 1 October, Botnia said that approval from environmental authorities required for the start of commercial production was still pending and announced that it would work closely with the relevant authorities to complete the approval phase as fast as possible so that the mill can be commissioned.
