Low pulp inventory levels support producers' price demands

While suppliers of softwood pulp have been signing August contracts at the same prices as in the previous month, negotiations in the hardwood segment are still in full swing. Converters are not willing to accept the asking price hike of $20/metr.t in the holiday month without putting up a fight. Paper mills are reportedly eager to try and achieve a two-step increase. However, their demands are falling on deaf ears. Pulp manufacturers refer to sustained high order intake and low inventories. The price target for eucalyptus and birch pulp is $720/metr.t in the current month.
