The announcement that two new news-print plants with a total annual capacity of 800,000 tonnes are to come on line in 2009 is the hot topic in the publication paper segment. Competitors believe that these plans by Ecco Newsprint and Palm might be a sensible decision in part but feared pressure from supply on a market that did not show any significant growth in consumption. In the view of some EU-WID sources, the market's ability to stom-ach the new plants would depend on how much capacity was taken offline around the world over the next 12 months and how great the pressure on supply would be from the Far East.
