Germany: more board producers announce price increases

Rumbles are audible throughout the board sector. After Easter, as expected, more GD board manufacturers notified their customers of price increases. ?40-50/t higher prices are now to be pushed through in the period April to June. In GC board, too, more suppliers have contacted their customers and given them notification of mark-ups. These range from ?65-70/t and are to apply as of May or for orders received as from 1 June at the latest. More announcements of price increases have also been received from greyboard producers. Mark-ups of ?30-40/t are envisaged for sometime during the course of the second quarter. Whilst the latest round of pricing in brown recycled corrugated case material has been concluded, the picture for white testliner was still a mixed one in March. Although a number of manufacturers state having already achieved the full ?30/t more in March, the majority of them appear to have either not got higher prices accepted on the market until April or to have done so by means of a two-stage solution in March/April. The newsprint market has finally settled down again where pricing is concerned. Speculation has arisen again about price development for 2008.
