German board producers looking to cast the spotlight on price increases

The issue of price increases for board has once again gained importance on the German market even though all conditions for higher prices were lacking of late and such plans have been shelved for the time being. One GC board manufacturer announced mark-ups "in the near future", with price hikes needing to be at least 10 per cent given skyrocketing costs. Other suppliers have similar plans that should be implemented by the fourth quarter. An identical situation was reported for GD board where higher prices are also expected by the fourth quarter at the latest. Newsprint manufacturers have also stuck their necks out unusually early with announcements of higher prices. Producers would strictly implement a mark-up of up to ∈30/t in the second half, at least for heatset paper. Corrugated board manufacturers were unsatisfied with the current state of their order books.
