Weyerhaeuser: potential buyer for Cosmopolis mill

Weyerhaeuser Company has possibly found a prospective buyer for its Cosmopolis specialty pulp mill located near Aberdeen in Washington state. The company announced that it will begin talks towards a sale with Evergreen Pulp and Grays Harbor PUD. Weyerhaeuser said a viable proposal by Evergreen Pulp and Grays Harbor offered assurance that sustained operations could be resumed at the mill, while offering appropriate sales value. Weyerhaeuser is hopeful that further discussions will lead to a definitive purchase and sales agreement. There is no fixed time schedule for concluding negotiations. Weyerhaeuser had closed down the mill in 2006; it was built in 1957 and has an annual capacity of 140,000 t of specialty pulp for plastics, photographic papers and cigarette filters. Weyerhaeuser began negotiating with Charlestown Investments last year on a potential sale of the mill but the negotiations were fruitless.
