Tembec Extends Downtime At Two Pulp Mills In France

Tembec Inc. will idle its two French pulp mills in Tarascon and Saint-Gaudens for longer than planned. Both mills will extend their stoppages by around three weeks and are not due to resume output until 30 March. The company had originally planned to close the two plants for four weeks starting on the weekend of the 7 and 8 February. Saint-Gaudens has a capacity of around 300,000 tpy and primarily makes hardwood pulp, while the Tarascon site specialises in softwood pulp with an capacity of 260,000 tpy. Tembec announced that the pulp market was weak because of the current economic climate and inventories were too high, meaning that additional stoppages were needed.
