Tembec Takes Downtime In France And Canada

Due to the drop in global pulp demand Tembec is planning a series of market-related temporary shutdowns affecting the company's three pulp mills in France as well as one of its Canadian pulp mills. In France, Tembec's Saint-Gaudens mill, which has a capacity of around 300,000 tpy of hardwood kraft pulp, is to stand still for four weeks as from 8 February. The same period of downtime is planned for the Tarascon mill, which has an annual output of up to 260,000 t of softwood kraft pulp. Tembec's Tartas mill, which has an annual capacity of 155,000 t of dissolving and fluff pulp, is to stand still for two weeks from 15 February. Slack demand has made these measures necessary, said manager Gerard Bontemps. In Canada, Tembec's high yield pulp mill located in Matane/Quebec which was expected to restart of 31 January will remain idled indefinitely. This facility has an annual capacity of 250,0001.
